Reusable Bags

Project Timeline: 1 or 2 years to complete

Reusable bags are in many stores.   In America 6 shopping bags are used per week, which means 108 billion bags are being discarded in American every week, which mean trash is being added up.  When throwing away bags it can take up to 15 to 1,000 years to decompose, and we don’t want that.  So, instead of throwing away the bags you can reuse them.  This not only helping us, it can help animals. Each year one million birds, 100,000 turtles, and many more sea animals are killed because of the plastic in the waters.

The Environmental Protection Agency, who collects plastic bags has said that bags that don’t get recycled are usually resting in the landfills or decomposing in our ocean.  But, most bags don’t stay in the landfill, it can fly away in many different places.

To stop this, plastic bags should be completely banned around the world or be paid for.  If this happens this would save 25,000 dollars in disposal cost and also the animals.

  1. I like your idea it sounds good. I’m a little confuse are you offering people reusable bags or informing them about reusable bags? I also don’t think reusable bags are really necessary because you could just keep reusing the same plastic bag til you can’t use it anymore. This would cut down on plastic bag usage and help save landfill space.

  2. This is a great idea, reusable bags would help the environment because there wouldn’t be many plastic bags piling up on garbage zones and then waiting for years and years until it decomposes. This project would also protect species as well as saving money.

  3. I think this is definitely something that can be done and many people would be interested in participating, myself included. Since the new tax on plastic bags was implemented, I’ve definitely seen more people carrying their own reusable bags. I know part of that money made from the tax goes to the store and the other to the city. Another portion or additional amount could also go to environmental agencies or organizations.
